FAQs

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept HMO insurance plans. If you have a PPO insurance plan, I would be considered an out-of-network provider.  PPO plans typically reimburse around 70-80% for out-of-network providers. If you are interested in using your PPO insurance,  you can call them and ask about their policy on out-of-network behavioral health care. You will want to know (1) the amount of your deductible and (2) what percentage of behavioral health services they will reimburse you.  You will be required to pay for your session in full at the time of service and I will provide you with a monthly statement that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

I do accept HSA and FSA cards!

How can therapy help?

Therapy can be so helpful in many different ways. One way therapy is helpful is by offering an emotionally safe and confidential place to talk about difficult issues you are experiencing. The therapist-client relationship should be empathetic, supportive, and encouraging. It should also be challenging with the therapist guiding the client outside of their comfort zones just enough to promote personal growth and change, using compassion and healing nurturing along that journey.
Another way therapy can be helpful is by teaching how to better recognize and effectively manage the range of different emotional experiences. We experience such a large spectrum of emotions…some of them pleasant and joyful to experience, and others excruciatingly uncomfortable. When we feel like our emotions have more control over us than we have over them, this can lead to many different issues and negative results.

What theoretical influences guide my work?

I work from an emotionally-focused approach, while also incorporating attachment and behavioral pattern perspectives. My goal is to help clients better identify problematic patterns of behaviors, identify and regulate emotions, and implement coping skills and strategies in order to create new patterns of behavior and interactions. Whether you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, eating issues, addiction, anger management, or other emotional or behavioral issues, learning how to sit with uncomfortable emotions and how to respond differently to them is a key piece in overcoming issues holding you back from experiencing your best life possible.

What is my role as a therapist?

My role as a therapist is to create a safe alliance with my client, show genuine curiosity about my clients’ experiences and processes, and collaborate and guide my clients through experiencing and organizing their emotional experiences and behavioral reactions. I want to empower my clients to recognize and implement change in their lives, while offering compassion, empathy, and support along the way.

How long does therapy take?

The length and frequency of therapy varies depending on the severity and nature of the client/couple’s presenting issue(s).  I cannot predict the length of a client’s therapy or guarantee a specific outcome, but I do work collaboratively with clients by providing feedback on progress towards therapeutic goals throughout the course of treatment.  Initially, it is best to meet weekly, but if a client cannot afford to do so, I can discuss a frequency of sessions that best accommodates the client and their financial situation.
